The "Baron" Haussmann installed street lighting, improved the sewage system and created avenues and boulevards. Boulevard Haussmann is one of the "Grands Boulevards", thoroughfares originally opened under Louis XIV and enlarged by Haussmann, which now bears his name.The major department stores in Paris such as Galeries Lafayette and Printemps can be found on the Boulevard Haussmann.
